Modeling in Pittsburgh, PA
It’s Max Here! I am a photographer now, but I have an extensive background in modeling. So I always like to drop in explain more about the modeling industry to these people that are new to it, especially if they are from Pittsburgh.
Alright, so a couple things to start.
There are a lot of different types of modeling, in this post I am going to speak primarily about modeling with an agency. Booking commercial and fashion jobs.
So the best play to start is this. Start your portfolio. Start building a really good portfolio. Secondly you should be taking digitals every 6 months.
In regards to modeling agencies specifically in Pittsburgh.
Here are two agencies that you want to try to work with in Pittsburgh. Every other agency I have heard of in Pittsburgh greater area is for the most part a bit of a scam.

These two agencies have booked huge jobs for models and actors all across PA and Ohio.
Next up, agencies in big markets, a lot of times aspirational models when they think about modeling, are thinking about LA or NYC. This is a totally different ball game, their are a ton of agencies in these cities and you need to be very careful about selecting the right one.
The number one rule for modeling is “your agency or manager should not be making any money unless they get you a job”. The standard industry rate is 20%. Legitimate agencies will take 20% of the money you make when they book you a job.
